It's time to wear the other guys shoes. Put yourself in the place of a Blue and Gold Macaw, or other parrot or bird that has been caged up all its life in a tiny space. It isn't a cheerful sight, particularly when you have wings and God meant you to fly completely free. The argument can be made, however, that domesticating parrots could also be in their best interest; or at least beneficial to them. At a minimum, if properly cared for they can expect to be fed well, be safe from the hazards of their natural environment, and greatly cherished by their keepers. With that in mind it is your responsibility to provide your pet parrots with the finest and most pleasing habitat we can fit into our budget. Thus the first, and most important, criterion on our list of considerations is the size of the domicile. The pet must have the ability to extend its wings as well as shift about. Physical exertion is critical to their health and well being. Therefore be sure to provide a home that is substantial enough for the size of your pet bird. Typically speaking a macaw will require an enclosure of no less than one yard long and nearly two yards wide. With comfort in mind, different sized parrots will also need to have suitable sized cages. Please bear in mind that these kinds of parrots can have extended lifespans, therefore a comfortable, size-appropriate home will help to ensure that they are content. Contemplate the area on hand in the home before you make a significant investment in a cage. Buying or building a walk-in aviary, where the birds can be maintained throughout the warmer seasons, is an approach chosen buy a number of owners. If your yard is big enough for it to make sense, it could be a wonderful situation. Parrot enclosures which are made from stainless-steel or some other metal alloy will be the most suitable since they're preferable to maintain and clean; and are sturdier and able to withstand the pounding it would take, particularly from the bigger birds. The enclosure will require cleaning frequently, thus the components used in its construction should be evaluated for their strength and durability. Acquiring a big bird cage has been especially simplified due to the proliferation of vendors that can be found on the internet. However, if you'd like to shop for a cage in person you can visit a pet shop or specialized bird store, it can be quite a gratifying experience and it will also allow you to contrast and compare the multitude of enclosures available. Also, if you have the financial wherewithal, as well as a significant area of space in your home that you are willing to sacrifice, you might even think about having an enclosure custom built for your pet.
